Follow our step-by-step troubleshooting guide to restore your vehicle’s Air Conditioning system

1. Possible problems when the system is not blowing cold air

Problem A

Your A/C system is low on gas, in which case you need to top up with Alaska Refrigerant Gas Replacement.

Problem B

Your A/C system has a leak and is empty. Use the LeakStopper sealer product first to seal the system before adding Alaska Refrigerant gas replacement.

Problem C

It’s rare, but the A/C system is malfunctioning and requires professional service.

2. How to tell which problem are you facing?

With your car engine running, switch on your A/C. If you hear a small click and your engine’s rev speed changes, the compressor is working.

3. Is your compressor working?

Yes

If the compressor is working, then it’s likely your A/C system is low on gas. Use Alaska Refrigerant Gas Replacement after reading the pressure. Follow the instructions below on how to read the pressure.

If your compressor isn’t working then this may be due to no or low pressure. Use the gauge in Alaska Refrigerant’s gauge pack to confirm this. Follow the instructions below on how to read the pressure.

4. How to read the pressure with the gauge

Step 1

Make sure your engine is off, then make sure the tap on the hose is screwed completely down.

Step 2

Connect the gauge to the low-pressure charging point on your vehicle. If you need help locating the ports in your vehicle, please contact us.

Step 3

Hold back the plastic ring, push the connector on to the port, and release the ring. You should hear a click when the connection is made.

Step 4

Turn the engine on, and set the A/C to its coldest setting. Use the recirculation option and leace all the vents open with the fan on full. You can read the pressure now.

5. Interpret the pressure value

6. Adding Alaska Refrigerant Gas Replacement or Leak Stopper to your A/C system

Step 1

Take the gauge before your connect the gauge. Wint the tap of the hose completely to the up position.

Step 2

Choose the appropriate can (either Gas Replacement or Leak Stopper), screw it carefully onto the tap of the gauge. Screw it on tightly and then bacl half a turn. Connect the hose to the low-pressure charging port of your vehicle.

Step 3

Start the engine, and set your A/C to the coldest setting with the fan on full. Connect the gauge and turn the tap into the fully down position. This will pierce the can.

Step 4

Invert the can, then unscrew the tap slowly to empty the contents of the can into the AC system.

Step 5

Once the can is empty (it should feel light and cold to the touch), screw the tap doen to close off the can. Turn your vehicle engine off, then disconnect the hose from the vehicle. Unscrew the can slowly from the hose always pointing it away from you.

Step 6

Restart the vehicle. Wait for 10 minutes, and retake the pressure reading. Refer to the table for further directions if necessary.
